Role
Two Principal Accountants are required for Derby City Council. As Principal Accountant you will be required to assist in the provision of a comprehensive accounting service to your department including corporately managed budgets; to provide financial support and advice to corporate projects and programmes. Main duties to include; financial advice on service and policy issues; assess financial implications regarding legislation and policy changes; preparation of budgets; medium term financial planning; supporting budget holders; ensure statutory accounts and external funding regimes are satisfied.

The role requires a full AAT qualification with experience or a part qualified CCAB accounts professional, able to demonstrate skills in financial management preferably within the Public Sector, local authority experience is desirable. The successful candidate must be confident, approachable, self motivated and be an effective communicator. Strong analytical skills and particularly strong abilities in management of financial controls and staff motivation are required.
