A report from the Recruitment and Employment Confederation (REC) and IHS Markit has found that the number of candidates placed in permanent roles by recruitment agencies has increased by the greatest extent in 27 months.
The number of temporary placements by agencies also improved, to a two-and-a-half year high.
The report, published earlier this summer, also revealed that the Midlands is the area that has shown the strongest growth in permanent placements, closely followed by the north of England. Interestingly, London demonstrated the weakest increase, where growth reduced to an eight-month low.
Successful permanent candidates are also enjoying higher starting salaries, with the rate of inflation reaching a 20-month record. What’s more, hourly pay rates for short-term staff are on the rise too.
Quoted on Personneltoday.com, Kevin Green, the chief executive of the REC, said, “UK employment remains at an all-time high and looks set to keep improving. It’s clear that employers are having to work even harder to fill jobs as vacancies rise and candidate availability shrinks.
“The parts of the economy most reliant on European workers are under even more pressure as many EU workers return home. Employers are not just struggling to hire the brightest and the best but also people to fill roles such as chefs, drivers and warehouse workers.”
